We’re So Buzzed About Our 100th Blog Post, We’re Giving Away Coffee!

Starbucks coffee cupBack on February 17, 2014, The Big A blog said “hello, world!” with our initial post. In the months since then, we’ve blogged about all sorts of things – from the Tower Challenge at Parkview Middle School in Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin, to the challenge of monitoring sanitary sewers in Colorado; from heading off problems by inspecting bridges to protecting your head with the right hard hat; from tracking Santa to keeping construction schedules on track.

And all of a sudden – today – we’ve reached our 100th post! Throughout this blogging journey our goal has been to inform, educate, and even entertain. And we’re not done yet. We have many more stories to share, and you can continue to count on finding something new on this site every week.

But after 100 blog posts, we’re wondering what you would like to know more about. Do you have questions that our architects, engineers, scientists, surveyors, and other professionals could answer? Please share, and help us provide more news you can use. Please comment below with questions for our experts.

As a bit of encouragement, we’re giving away a $25 Starbucks gift card. We’ll randomly select a winner from all those who leave a comment. We may also gift you with an Ayres Associates logo item if we select your question to answer in a future blog post.

So ask away! We look forward to hearing your questions and continuing with another 100 weekly conversations … and then some.

The contest closes at 11 p.m. Central time on June 24. Be sure to check back on June 25 when we will announce the winner of the 100th blog post contest. Ayres Associates employees and their immediate families are not eligible for the contest.

No question, just encouragement — best of luck to the AYRES gang!

  • Lois Rothstein says:

I’ve seen some of your work and designs…beautiful! I’m sure you will be around for years to come. I have a granddaughter, ok…she’s only 4, BUT she’s already showing signs of either an engineer or architect. We’ll send her your way in 20 years! ( alittle humor for your Thursday morning).

Keep up the wonderful designs and work you do. Congrats on 100 blogs.

    • Ayres says:

We appreciate your comment, Lois. And we would love to have your granddaughter join the Ayres team in 2035. Who knows what we’ll be designing then?

  • Suzie Slota says:

Which project has inspired your imagination (you can choose who “you” is) the most?

    • Ayres says:

Great question, Suzie! I’m sure every one of our experts would have an interesting answer. Looks like we’re set with blog ideas for the next few years!

  • Kay Scharn says:

I have a new house with divider strips in most of my windows. My architect person keeps referring to them at “muntins”, but others call them “mullions”. Is there really that much of a difference? Outside of decoration, is there any purpose for them, or did I just pay more money for the joy of getting to clean around them?? 🙂

  • Samantha Bluhm says:

    Great work.

A friend of mine has a townhome and is having issues with the deck. Apparently the clay in the ground is pushing the footings up and the decks are askew, causing havoc. The builder says they’ve met code. My sincere question is this: has there ever been a time when a building code hasn’t made sense and you’ve changed a design as a result? If so, what and how? Thanks!

  • Deb Cordes says:

    sweet!

  • Mary Ingebretson says:

How is the duck family doing outside the wonderful caretaker’s window?

    • Ayres says:

Well, they’ve flown the coop. The proud duck parents and ducklings were spotted between our Eau Claire, WI, headquarters and the pond behind our building after the little ones hatched and gained mobility. And then, poof! You know how it is. They never call, never write!

  • Troy says:

You’ve designed several bike trails. What are the benefits when governments invest in public recreational spaces?

    • Ayres says:

Great question, Troy. We’ll consider putting your question in front of our trail and trail bridge engineers to see what they say.

  • Karrie-Sue says:

With all the LIDAR data you’ve collected over the years what are some of the most interesting features you’ve seen within the data?

  • Angie Chovanec says:

How do you capture and deliver on the human element of a project?

  • Christine says:

What are the pros / cons of metal vs. asphalt shingles on residential structures?

  • Linda Edwards says:

    Go team Ayres!

  • Rachel says:

What projects have you done in eau claire and chippewa area?

  • Deanne R. says:

CONGRATS, on reaching your 100th blog post!!!

  • Maggie says:

Congratulations Ayres on your 100th post, well done! No question at the moment, but I’ll be sure to return to your blog if I do.
