Structural Design/Inspection Manager Earns Grade of Fellow at ASCE-SEI
Hisham Sunna, our manager of Southeast Operations-structural design/inspection, was recently named a fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers-Structural Engineering Institute. Fewer than 1% of Structural Engineering Institute members have attained the grade of fellow.
Among several factors determining Hisham’s eligibility to be named a fellow was his experience being in responsible charge of important structural engineering works for at least 10 years and his qualifications to direct, conceive, plan, or design engineering works (several of Hisham’s projects are pictured above). Hisham has more than 22 years of professional experience in structural engineering. He is also founding chairman of the SEI West Coast Branch.
“It is great to be recognized by your peers for accomplishments in what you enjoy doing,” Hisham says. “The challenge is to keep going forward serving the profession through your interaction with your colleagues, your clients, and the public.”
Hisham holds master’s and doctoral degrees in structural engineering and is responsible for structural analysis and design, structural evaluations and reports, and quality assurance. He specializes in the design of vehicular bridges and pedestrian and bicycle overpasses and has also been involved in the evaluation of bridges subject to scour for the past 18 years.
Among the projects he has managed are the following:
- Courtney Campbell Causeway Multiuse Trail Bridge, Hillsborough County, Florida
- US 17-92 General Hutchison Pedestrian Bridge Design-Build, Seminole County, Florida
- Collins Road over I-295 Structures, Jacksonville, Florida
- Wisconsin & Southern Railroad Bridge at Merrimac, Merrimac, Wisconsin
- Tropicana Field Rails to Trails Structural Design, St. Petersburg, Florida
