Washburn County Wozny Road Bridge over Totagatic River
« Return to Project SearchThe Town of Frog Creek and the Washburn County Highway Department retained Ayres to design a replacement for the narrow Wozny Road bridge over the Totagatic River. The original bridge was a multi-cell concrete structure with stoplogs functioning as a dam owned by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR). Alternatives for removing the existing structure were evaluated, but ultimately the WDNR decided to keep the existing dam in place.
The new 90-foot-long single-span prestressed concrete girder bridge was built about 250 feet downstream of the existing structure. Wozny Road was realigned to match up with the new bridge. Special construction considerations were needed due to wetlands and near-surface boulders at the site. Access to an adjacent boat landing and parking area were modified to accommodate the shift in the location of the bridge and its approaches. Extensive coordination with the WDNR was needed because the agency owns the dam and all the adjacent property in the Totagatic River State Wildlife Area.
