Vernon County Highway Shop
« Return to Project SearchThe Vernon County Highway Department retained Ayres to perform design and construction administration services associated with its new highway shop near Viroqua, Wisconsin. Ayres provided structural and site civil design services for the new 45,000-square-foot facility, which consists of a vehicle garage, repair garage, welding shop, automatic truck wash, storage mezzanine, lunch room, toilet rooms, and administrative spaces. The site also includes a salt storage building, fueling island, septic system, and stormwater pond.
Structural design services included preparing design computations, technical specifications, and structural drawings for the new facility. The structure consists of a steel roof deck on open-web steel joists and structural steel framing, structural precast wall panels, a pre-engineered metal building, and shallow foundations. The storage mezzanine was constructed with hollow-core precast plank and concrete masonry unit walls. Additionally, the structural steel framing was designed to accommodate the 10-ton-capacity overhead crane installed in the repair garage.
Site design services include attending meetings throughout the course of the project; developing preliminary grading, drainage, water, sewer, and stormwater plans; reviewing existing soil samples; preparing final construction drawings and specifications for the site civil elements; and preparing submittals for the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
