US 51 Marathon County Bridge Rehabilitations
« Return to Project SearchThe Wisconsin Department of Transportation hired Ayres to provide construction observation for the rehabilitation of five bridges along USH 51 north of Wausau in Marathon County. Work included bridge and road rehabilitation, signage installation, and landscaping.
Bridge rehabilitation included removing the existing concrete bridge overlay; completing Type 1 and Type 2 bridge deck repairs; placing a new concrete masonry overlay; and completing concrete surface repairs, bridge repainting, and a bridge deck polymer overlay.
Road rehabilitation included concrete bridge approaches, crushed aggregate slope paving, asphalt shoulders, storm sewer replacement, base aggregate, asphalt pavement overlay, a concrete sidewalk, beam guard replacement, permanent signing, landscaping, and pavement markings.
Two lanes of traffic in each direction needed to remain open during construction, so multiple traffic stages and shifts were required. Construction administration duties included inspection, contract reporting, weekly erosion and traffic control inspections, records documentation, materials testing, and documentation and measurement of quantities.
