Calumet County US 10 and CTH N Roundabout
« Return to Project SearchAt its intersection with CTH N in Calumet County, US 10 had a 55 mph posted speed. The intersection was on a curve and had been the site of many accidents. Ayres was retained to design a single-lane roundabout at the intersection. The project included signing and pavement markings. The new design includes raised splitter islands that extend approximately 1,000 feet.
The northwestern part of Calumet County is a fast-growing rural area consisting of bedroom communities and small rural communities whose residents commute to the Fox Cities for employment, entertainment, and shopping. Therefore, a 41-car park-and-ride facility was designed and included in plans for this project.
Services included environmental documentation; utility coordination; a right-of-way plat; preliminary and final roadway design; and plans, specifications, and estimates. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Northeast Region, began this project with a preliminary layout of the roundabout, including a rendering for a public information meeting. Ayres completed the project under a WisDOT design master contract.
