Neighborhood Traffic Calming Case Study
« Return to Project SearchNorth 103rd and 104th Streets serve as neighborhood streets and provide a direct connection between Bluemound Road and Watertown Plank Road. It was observed that these streets often served as cut-through routes between Bluemound Road and Watertown Plank Road when traffic diverts to avoid congestion on Bluemound Road or Watertown Plank Road. This cut-through traffic concern became a priority for the City of Wauwatosa with the pending reconstruction traffic impacts that might result from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s Zoo Interchange project. The City hired Ayres to conduct a traffic calming study of the North 103rd and 104th Street neighborhood. This study collected “before and after” speed data on streets where temporary speed tables were installed to help moderate vehicle speeds and “tame” traffic flow.
