Rock Island Schwiebert Riverfront Park
« Return to Project SearchFor generations Rock Island’s downtown and its residents have been separated from the Mississippi River by businesses and a flood control dike. With the opening of Schwiebert Park, residents can now take in sweeping views of the river, watch barges move through locks, see American bald eagles feeding in the winter, or attend a concert on the bank of the river. And when the Mississippi threatens to flood, a removable flood wall system provides protection.
As one visitor said so well, the “river is ours again.”
From planning through final design, our team carried the City’s vision to reality. Services included park design, landscape architecture, and civil engineering.
This project won the 2010 Project of the Year Award in the Government/Public Building category from Midwest Construction Magazine, an Award of Excellence from the Wisconsin Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects, the Livability Award from the Young Professionals of the Quad Cities, and the Lorraine D. Wright Construction Award from the National Association of Women in Construction.
