Bayfield County Old 63 Bridge over 18 Mile Creek
« Return to Project SearchThe Town of Grand View selected Ayres to design a replacement structure for Old 63 Road over 18 Mile Creek in Grand View. In July 2016 a major flood completely washed out a 70-foot-long concrete box culvert and the 20-foot-high roadway embankment. Concrete box culverts and single-span prestressed concrete girder bridges were studied to determine the best structure type for the site.
Ultimately a 70-foot-long single-span prestressed concrete girder bridge was selected because it provided a cost savings over a new box culvert, was preferred by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, and minimizes the potential for future washouts at the site. Ayres coordinated with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) on the Town’s behalf to change the scope of the project and obtain funding for the improved bridge project.
Services included a field survey obtaining existing topography, hydrology for the site, preparation of roadway and structure plans, agency coordination, opinion of probable cost, FEMA applications and coordination, bidding services, and construction phase services.
