Little Lake Butte Des Morts Bridge Rehabilitation
« Return to Project SearchThe Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Northeast Region, retained Ayres to provide construction observation for the rehabilitation of the Little Lake Butte Des Morts bridge on US 10 in Winnebago County.
The project included removing the existing concrete deck overlay; completing Type 1, Type 2, and Type 3 deck repairs; placing new concrete deck overlay; repairing the median concrete barrier wall; beam guard; asphaltic approach replacement; traffic control staging; pavement marking; and landscaping. This heavily traveled roadway remained open to traffic throughout the project; half of the bridge was rehabilitated at a time. Several nearby ramps were closed to minimize the amount of traffic entering the work site and to eliminate merging movements.
The project included providing construction observation services for bridge repainting. Ayres originally analyzed the existing paint system to determine if lead was present and provided a recommendation on the type of surface preparation that was needed. Field work included preparing the outside face of exterior girders, all girders and cross bracing within 10 feet of the hinge joints and bearings, and other miscellaneous areas to SSPC-SP7 (brush blast) cleaning; collecting and storing spent material and paint residue in approved hazardous waste containers; and placing two to three coats of moisture cure urethane.
