Ayres provided a facility condition assessment of the Ellsworth Public Library’s nearly 100-year-old building and proceeded with conceptual design services for a two-story, 4,000-square-foot addition.

After the design team reviewed the property setbacks and limitations to the existing site, the client decided to pursue the purchase and renovation of a newly vacated bank. Ayres conducted a facility/code assessment of the bank to aid in the decision-making process. Ayres provided estimated costs for multiple renovation options for consideration by the Village and Library boards.

After fundraising efforts proved successful, Ayres provided full design services for the renovation of 12,000 square feet of space, including an Americans with Disabilities Act accessible entrance and exterior book drop. The Ayres design team creatively used the existing bank’s unique features. The old vault – with the original door intact – provides a quiet study and showcases local history.
