Dedham Road over Nemadji River Bridge Replacement

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation and the Town of Superior retained Ayres to design the replacement of a historic steel truss bridge with a new three-span haunched slab bridge. Services included survey, wetland delineation, highway design, structure design, right-of-way, geotechnical engineering, hydraulic design, environmental coordination, and historic clearance.
Key issues and challenges were the historic steel truss bridge, large flows with debris and floating ice along the Nemadji River, roadway alignment improvements, environmental coordination, structure type considerations, and problematic red clay soils.
