Chippewa River Trail under Farwell Street Bridge

The City of Eau Claire has made a sincere, successful effort to improve the appearance of the City’s downtown, which boasts picturesque rivers. The City retained Ayres for preliminary and final design services for constructing a portion of a recreation trail under one of the bridges in the downtown.
The project carried many challenges: There was little clearance beneath the bridge, the trail would travel through the new Phoenix Park development and therefore needed to blend in with the aesthetics of the area, and the trail needed to tie into a site development for a new office building. Ayres responded to the design challenges by creating an underpass that is functional and attractive, with retaining walls and slope stabilization as required.
