CDOT Flood Damage Support & Permanent Repairs
« Return to Project SearchAyres assisted the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) with post-flooding recovery in 2013 and 2014 at its Incident Command Center as the agency’s hydraulics and geomorphology on-call consultant. Ayres provided hydraulics and geomorphology support under the initial emergency response effort, performed initial hydrologic and geomorphic flood assessment, and assisted with Detailed Damage Inspection Reports (DDIR) for distribution of federal recovery funds.
Under the emergency recovery effort, Ayres’ staff served as the river morphology experts on the CDOT flood damage assessment teams in support of developing a strategic plan for recovery of all affected state and local highways. This recovery includes rebuilding affected state and local highways to their original condition or rebuilding to full standards.
Ayres helped assess flood damage, evaluated emergency repairs, and recommended permanent repairs and improvements for major mountain highway corridors, including US 34 from Loveland to Estes Park, SH 7 from Lyons to Estes Park, and LCR 43 from Drake to Glen Haven, as well as at sites on SH 72A (Coal Creek Canyon), 119A (Boulder Canyon), 257A and 60B over the Little Thompson and Big Thompson Rivers and the South Platte River in Milliken, and sites on US 34A/D, 52B, 128A, 144A, 71E, and 39A over and along the South Platte River.
