Bush Brothers Office Addition
« Return to Project SearchThis 25,300-square-foot office addition at a Bush Brothers & Company food production facility was designed to provide space for executive and employee services. The design incorporates daylighting, individual controls for office occupants, and recycled and natural materials.
The building also features innovative heat recovery involving a water source heat pump system that allows energy recovery from the adjacent food processing facility to eliminate the need to use new energy for heating or ventilation whenever the adjacent food process line is operating. Waste heat is also used for snow melting on sidewalks and patios to enhance safety, reduce labor costs, and reduce the use of snow melting chemicals. The removal of heat from the process lines reduces the amount of cooling water used and wasted. Currently 500,000 gallons of water are used each week for process cooling. The snow melt system will be used year-round to dissipate heat and reduce water waste.
This facility was evaluated and energy conservation measures were approved through a Wisconsin Focus on Energy study and grant process. These features helped this project receive a Sustainability and Energy Efficiency Leadership Award (Special Citation for Innovative Heat Recovery).
