Leo Frigo Bridge Failure Monitoring
« Return to Project SearchThe Leo Frigo Bridge carries I-43 traffic in Green Bay, comprising an important transportation route for the city and the region. Settlement of a pier triggered closure of the bridge, and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), Northeast Region, retained Ayres to help determine the cause.
Ayres helped WisDOT set up an automated monitoring system involving attaching a total station and prisms to the piers. Investigation determined that the settled pier and several adjacent piers had sustained corrosion of their pilings. Ayres surveyors helped WisDOT with construction staking for the temporary shoring towers and caissons for the bridge repairs and provided monitoring of the bridge for settlement throughout the construction of repairs.
