Blue Mound State Park Splashpad and Pool

« Return to Project Search

Ayres worked with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) to develop the first splashpad facility in a Wisconsin state park, which had its grand opening at Blue Mound State Park on Memorial Day 2015.

The project included a feasibility study examining whether to repair or replace an aging swimming pool complex at the park. Life cycle, operation, and maintenance costs were analyzed for the existing facility and used as a benchmark for conceptual alternative designs. The team explored the renovation of the existing facility to achieve code compliance, replacement of the pool in lieu of a splashpad, and a hybrid option establishing a new smaller pool and an interactive splashpad zone. Projected revenue and operation/maintenance figures were established to aid the agency in future funding allocation for the site.

When the WDNR determined a new aquatics facility was the most feasible approach, Ayres completed the design development and construction documents for implementation of the new pool and splashpad.

Project elements included a new pool vessel, themed splashpad, bath house renovations, new parking lot, and utility infrastructure replacement.
