Bent Tree Wind Farm
« Return to Project SearchAlliant Energy’s Bent Tree Wind Farm includes 122 wind turbines across 80 square miles of southeastern Minnesota. Ayres was selected for the civil-site design and successfully met the challenges posed by an extremely short schedule. In less than 45 days, Ayres designed 26.5 miles of access roadway, 38 public road improvements, and 122 turbine assembly areas. As the design progressed, we accommodated changing landowner preferences for access road locations.
Ayres also provided an on-site design liaison during construction to answer questions, modify designs, and track design changes. To ensure all project elements worked together, the design required close coordination with the environmental engineer, foundation engineer, substation engineer, and collector system engineer.
Freeborn County required special considerations for the locations of access points to public roads. By field-reviewing each access site, the County, Alliant Energy, and Ayres reached consensus on locations that met the needs of the County and Alliant Energy.
