Mead Library Plaza
Mead Library Plaza, Sheboygan, WI
Ayres worked with the City of Sheboygan to re-envision Sheboygan’s Mead Library Plaza. Objectives of the redesign included:
- Preserving and enhancing a historic fountain designed by Lawrence Halprin
- Highlighting the library’s primary entrance
- Simplifying pedestrian circulation
- Creating opportunities for patrons to enjoy the library’s landscape
- Integrating the site with the streetscape
- Anchoring the west end of the adjacent art district
Ayres completed alternative concepts and construction documents for the site that introduced play and green space into the plaza experience. Design elements built off the forms and materials of the adjacent Halprin Fountain. Design features included seating block, reposed art panels from a removed clock, decorative lighting and landscaping.
The project bids recently came in under budget, and the project re-opened in September 2019.
