Leader in Roundabout Design Joins Ayres
Kevin Kuhlow, PE, has joined Ayres Associates’ transportation engineering staff as a project manager and lead roundabout designer. Kevin has over 19 years of transportation design and project management experience, and for the past eight years he has focused entirely on roundabouts, including operational analysis, feasibility studies, design, review, construction observation assistance, and training.
Kevin is a leading roundabout designer in the United States, having been involved with developing hundreds of roundabouts throughout North America, ranging from single-lane roundabouts to complex three-lane roundabouts. He also has been actively involved in developing VISSIM micro-simulation models for operational results and for use during public information meetings. Kevin has a passion for providing roundabout education and has extensive experience working with agencies, communities, and the public to gain acceptance for challenging roundabout projects.
“Designing roundabouts to solve clients’ complex intersection issues is very rewarding for me,” Kevin says. “While working on a project, I know that I’m offering an intersection control solution that will potentially save lives, as well as provide improved traffic operations.”
Kevin worked with the Wisconsin DOT to develop the state’s most recent roundabout design guidelines update. He was a co-instructor for WisDOT’s roundabout training workshops in 2006, 2009, and 2013; has been co-instructor for Georgia DOT roundabout training workshops; and presented at the Institute of Transportation Engineers’ 2009 and 2013 Midwestern District conferences and the 2011 Transportation Research Board International Roundabout Conference.
