Anthony Alvarado, PE, CFM, has been promoted to vice president of Ayres’ Western Division, taking on oversight of 40 talented staff, effective August 28. Based in Colorado, Alvarado now oversees a multi-disciplined team across the West and Midwest that provides stream, stormwater, and overall water resources engineering, along with survey and subsurface utility engineering (SUE).

Alvarado’s guidance of the Western Division will benefit from his adept management of resources and his ability to create winning teams and maintain a sharp focus on client service. While his responsibilities center around staff within the Western Division, his companywide view keeps him attuned to the many opportunities his staff have to collaborate with other divisions, including the 20 Fort Collins staff who specialize in planning, landscape architecture, mapping/survey, mechanical/electrical/plumbing engineering, transportation engineering, and structural engineering. Those staff are under the oversight of other vice presidents, but the complex projects Ayres takes on often benefit from the collaboration of specialists from several divisions.

“I want to honor the Fort Collins office’s strong technical and ethical legacy, maintaining our collaborative and open team culture, and continuing to grow us and Ayres in the West,” Alvarado says.

Alvarado was promoted to manager of the Stream and Stormwater Group at the beginning of 2021. The group leads the way on river hydraulics and tackles clients’ challenges on stream restoration, floodplains, and the complex intersection of water with bridges and roadways, along with providing SUE and survey services. Alvarado has been with Ayres for 23 years. His project management experience includes bridge hydraulics, scour analysis, countermeasure design, hydraulic modeling, floodplain mapping and permitting, and GIS projects related to hydrology and hydraulics. He has been responsible for the hydraulic design of scour and stream instability countermeasures at sites nationwide and is a certified National Highway Institute instructor.

The Water Resources Group provides services including bridge and culvert hydraulic design, dam engineering and inspection, and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission permitting.

“Anthony has been an important player in transforming our Fort Collins office into a diverse team offering an array of services,” says Jason Ingram, executive vice president. “I know he will be looking for every opportunity to offer our clients our full range of professional services, and he has the management skills to continue Ayres’ drive toward seamless collaboration across all our service lines to deliver complete results on clients’ complex projects.” Alvarado holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Colorado State University. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM), and the Colorado Association of Stormwater and Floodplain Managers. Alvarado is a registered professional engineer in Colorado, Florida, Texas, New Mexico, Nevada, and Pennsylvania, and he is an ASFPM certified floodplain manager. He has received awards for his instruction of Federal Highway Administration National Highway Institute courses relating to his specialties.
