US 8 Rehabilitation from Bruce to Ladysmith
« Return to Project SearchThe Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s Northwest Region selected Ayres to develop plans to mill and overlay US 8 from the Chippewa River bridge just east of Bruce to STH 27 in Ladysmith. The project included the addition of an eastbound right-turn lane onto US 8 at the CTH E intersection near Bruce and the addition of a westbound bypass lane onto US 8 at Schmidt Road.
This project was unique as it involved milling and overlaying up to an existing railroad track that was recently converted back to a railroad system.
The project also included cleaning and rehabilitation of the existing culvert pipes. The beam guard was also replaced along the entire length of the project and upgraded to current standards.
The project included roadway plans; agency coordination; design reports; utility coordination (Trans 220); railroad coordination; field survey; transportation management plan (TMP); meetings; and plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E). Construction was completed in 2016.
