Fox Point Bridge Lane Ravine Footbridge

« Return to Project Search

The Village of Fox Point retained Ayres to evaluate alternatives for the Bridge Lane Ravine Footbridge and provide necessary design work. Services involved preparing preliminary designs and cost estimates for each of the three alternatives: repair/rehabilitation, replacement, and removal of the bridge. Replacement was chosen as the preferred solution.

The project won a 2015 Public Works Project of the Year Award from the American Public Works Association Wisconsin Chapter.

The bridge is between Bridge Lane and Barnett Lane in the Village of Fox Point and dates back to the very early 1900s. The old six-span structure was about 300 feet long and crossed an approximately 75-foot ravine.

Services also included a Wisconsin Department of Transportation Bicycle and Pedestrian Facilities Program grant application, extensive public involvement, water main design, and preparing permits and construction documents.

The successful project became a public-private partnership with nearly half the funds for construction coming from private donors, led by Footbridge Friends, a nonprofit that raised money for the project. Footbridge Friends contributed $515,000 to the overall costs for construction and inspection of the new bridge.
