Kevin Kuhlow, PE, has been named manager of our traffic services group, supervising traffic staff who provide traffic analysis and engineering services around the nation from multiple offices.

Kuhlow will employ his people skills as he manages a talented group of traffic engineers and analysts who have learned from some of the best in the industry. He will also spread the word on what Ayres’ traffic engineers can do to make sure our transportation design projects effectively address safety and traffic operation needs through traffic modeling, skillful design of signalized and roundabout intersections, and optimized signal timing.

Kuhlow has been involved with developing hundreds of roundabouts throughout North America since 2000, ranging from single-lane roundabouts to complex three-lane roundabouts. He also has been actively involved in developing VISSIM micro-simulation models for operational results and for use during public information meetings. He is highly skilled in providing roundabout education and has extensive experience working with agencies, communities, and the public to gain acceptance for challenging roundabout projects.

Kuhlow is qualified as a Level 3 roundabout designer for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), the state’s highest level. He has extensive knowledge and expertise in WisDOT procedures for design and for plans, specifications, and estimates. Kuhlow worked with WisDOT and the Florida DOT (FDOT) to develop their roundabout design guidelines, and he has provided roundabout design reviews for FDOT projects. He has developed and provided roundabout design training workshops for DOTs in Wisconsin, Florida, and Georgia, and he has presented at numerous conferences.

“Kevin’s national reputation – along with his desire to take on new challenges and explore new opportunities – will propel Ayres Associates’ traffic engineering group to a new level of assisting clients with complex traffic analysis and design needs demanding a range of tools and solutions, especially involving intersection innovations that Kevin has helped implement around the nation,” says Eric Sorensen, PE, vice president.

Kuhlow holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is a registered professional engineer in Wisconsin, Illinois, Florida, Arkansas, Minnesota, and Indiana.
