Ayres Associates is sending staff this week to the sites of two washouts along STH 13 in Ashland County, Wisconsin. Box culverts that carried Silver Creek under STH 13 at Highbridge and Trout Brook under STH 13 at North York were washed out after torrential rains in the region late Monday. Ayres Associates has been in touch with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s Northwest Region and is accelerating culvert and roadway replacement design work for the Silver Creek culvert, which had already been scheduled for replacement in 2017, so that construction can begin within about three weeks and be completed by the end of 2016. And Ayres will provide extremely accelerated design services for emergency replacement of the Trout Brook culvert and roadway, also with the goal of getting that crossing open to traffic in December. Both culverts will be replaced with bridges, which will provide greater capacity to handle floodwaters. An Ayres survey crew will be in the area Thursday to collect data from the scene.
